Federal law now allows banks to process checks electronically. Though not mandatory, many banks are choosing to scan original checks to create “substitute” checks for digital processing. The result is reduced processing time and cost.
Banks that choose to take advantage of Check 21 will soon require original paper checks to be image ready. This means that the check design must allow for clean scanning to insure that all areas of interest are legible and the scanned file size is reasonably low.
AmeriPrint has installed an IQX97 Image Qualifier and a GTX 2553 GE MICR Qualifier, both manufactured by RDM Corporation. With this equipment it is possible for us to scan original paper checks for the purpose of determining Check 21 and MICR compliance.
